17th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference Incorporating Refining & Petrochemicals
From 1 June, the attention of the international oil and gas industry will be focused on Baku for the Caspian region’s biggest trade event. The 17th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference incorporating Refining & Petrochemicals will unite thousands of professionals in the global oil and gas sector.
Caspian Oil & Gas is a well-established business forum at which companies can present new products and projects. The exhibition and conference are supported by the Ministry of Industry and Energy, the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and for the first time, by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The history of Azerbaijan, which is the cradle of the global oil industry, and the attention of the country's leadership to the event and the industry, are factors in the success of the exhibition and conference. The prestige of the exhibition is underlined by the annual participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Ilham Aliyev, in the official opening ceremony. The exhibition and conference are supported by the Ministry of Industry and Energy, and the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). This year, the conference is also being supported by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan. For 5 years, the exhibition has held “UFI Approved Event” status. The recognition of the UFI (Global Association of the Exhibition Industry) confirms that Caspian Oil and Gas meets international standards.
Over the 17 years of its existence, Caspian Oil and Gas has passed certain stages of development, while preserving its traditional character and scale. But this year will be particularly special for the exhibition, as it enters a new era: Caspian Oil and Gas 2010 will be held in a new exhibition venue, Baku Expo Center, which has been designed and built in accordance with the highest international standards. The opening of the new complex is a welcome event for exhibitors. The modern exhibition space will provide an additional impetus to the development of the region’s exhibition industry and Caspian Oil and Gas in particular. Baku Expo Center also has a number of advantages for visitors: developed infrastructure, an information service, cafés, parking and much more. In short, the new venue will further improve the organisation of the event.
Caspian Oil and Gas continues to attract the attention of major international companies. The representatives of the Ministries from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Norway, UAE, the USA, Turkey and the Czech Republic, as well as representatives of major oil and gas companies and institutions, will take part in the exhibition and conference. Letters welcoming the exhibitors and visitors of Caspian Oil and Gas have been sent by the leaders of several countries.
Every year the exhibition becomes larger and more varied. This year, Caspian Oil and Gas will bring together 280 companies from 26 countries, increasing the exhibition area by 15% compared with last year. They include: Itochu, OMV Gas International GmbH, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), Statoil ASA, Total, TPAO and many others. Among the other exhibitors are national group stands from the UK, China and Russia. This year, UAE is taking part with a national group stand for the first time and their delegation will be led by the Minister of Energy, H.E. Mohamed bin Dhaen Al Hamli. In addition to commercial organisations, the exhibition and conference will be attended by government structures, including: SOCAR, AzerEnergy, Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, and the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs’ (Employers’) Organisations of the Azerbaijan Republic. The exhibition occupies two halls, as well as the outside area of the complex. As 2010 has been declared the Year of the Ecology in Azerbaijan, the special theme of this year’s show is alternative energy.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a comprehensive programme of business events. The traditional Caspian Oil & Gas conference will be held on 2 and 3 June in the Hyatt Regency hotel. Over 400 delegates will attend the conference, including some of the most influential players in the region’s oil and gas sector. Speakers include Ministers from Azerbaijan, Georgia, the USA, Turkey and the Czech Republic.
Special attention will be given to the resources of the Caspian Basin and the increasing role of Azerbaijan as a transit country. The conference will open with a plenary session on “European geopolitics of energy and the role of Azerbaijan”, with presentations by senior representatives of regional oil companies. The significance of the Caspian region for European energy security will also be discussed. The second day will focus on the prospects for the exploration and production of energy resources in the Caspian Basin, as well as gas infrastructure in the Caspian region and the geopolitics of pipelines.
The Year of the Ecology in Azerbaijan, and the interest of oil companies in this area, determined the subject of another conference session, which will focus on alternative energy and environmental issues, and is entitled: "Environmental services and technologies: the future of the fast-developing oil and gas industry”. The Chairman of the session and keynote speaker is Azerbaijan’s Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Huseyngulu Bagirov.
Several publications will be prepared for the exhibition and conference, including an official exhibition catalogue with detailed descriptions of exhibitors, conference materials with speaker biographies, and an official daily newspaper, Caspian Oil and Gas, which will cover events at the exhibition and conference.

The exhibition and conference will enable specialists, scientists and engineers to learn about the recent developments of international manufacturers in oil and gas production, transportation and processing; see the latest equipment and technologies for the oil and gas industry; and hold useful discussions and exchange views. Interest in the Caspian’s energy resources, new large-scale projects for the production and transportation of hydrocarbons, and the increasing role of Azerbaijan in European energy security will inevitably lead to growth in the industry - in this regard, the importance of the exhibition and conference cannot be overemphasised. As an annual meeting place for old partners and investors, Caspian Oil and Gas reflects the real situation in the industry, and remains an example of stability and transparency in the development of the oil and gas industry in Azerbaijan. The exhibition ends on 4 June.
