3d seismic exploration works successfully completed on deep-water Caspian fields
The 3D seismic exploration works on the perspective fields Shafag and Asiman that started early November 2011 have been completed, BP Azerbaijan company, operator of the exploration project, said.
The company specified that the field works were completed on January 4 and the data is being currently processed.
The seismic exploration was carried out by Caspian Geophysical company with help of Gilavar research vessel. The data will be processed in 2012 , it will be interpreted in 2013 and from 2014 to 2016 the exploration well will be planned.
The first exploration well on the Shafag-Asiman contract area will be drilled in quarter 4, 2016.
The sea depth in the area of the structure varies between 650 and 950 meters. The depth of the well will be about 65000-7000 meters and high pressure and high temperature is expected here during drilling.
According to preliminary information, the productive thickness will be almost 3 km and it starts from the depth of 5 to 8 km.
The production sharing agreement (PSA) on joint exploration and development of Shafag and Asiman fields was signed by SOCAR (50%) and BP (50%) on October 7, 2010. The contract was signed for 30 years. The bloc is located 125 km southeast of Azerbaijani capital, Baku. The contract area is 1100 km and the exploration works have never been carried out on it.-
