Intergovernmental working group to be set up to build oil refinery in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan senior Vice Premier Aaly Karashev said at a press conference that it was decided at yesterdays intergovernmental session in Bishkek that Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan will set up a working group to build the oil refinery.

April 30 could be called a historical day in the relationships between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, because the first session of the intergovernmental commission of the two states has taken place today. During the constructive dialogue we found the points of contact in various areas, including energy, Karashev said.

Yesterday Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambayev received the Azerbaijani delegation led by Senior Deputy Premier Yagub Eyubov. Atambayev thanked members of the delegation and added that they needed an impulse to implement the agreements reached during his official visit to Azerbaijan.

SOCAR plans to build oil refinery with the capacity of refining of 2 million tons a year on the north of Kyrgyzstan. Kazakhstans oil, which will be delivered either by railway or via the newly-build pipeline, will be used as a raw material. Kyrgyzstans need in the oil products is 1.3 million tons. The remaining volume is planned to be exported to the neighboring Tajikistan.
