Caspian Oil & Gas 2012 - a significant contribution to the development and strengthening of co-operation

Caspian Oil & Gas 2012 closes today. It has started a bright new page in the history of the oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan. More than three hundred companies from 35 countries were able to demonstrate all the best aspects of their businesses, and had an opportunity to demonstrate their successes and achievements at Baku Expo Centre.

The high status of the exhibition was confirmed by the participation in the opening ceremony of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev. He praised the organization of Caspian Oil & Gas over the past 19 years, wished success to the participants and noted that their activities were very important for the country.

Describing the general direction of the countrys development Mr Aliyev said that over the past 10 years the Azerbaijani economy had tripled in size, and as a result it has been possible to significantly reduce poverty in the country.

As the head of state noted, the oil factor has helped to revive the economy and to stimulate its growth. However, also according to the president, this is not only down to the revenues, but also to the efficiency of their use as well. He stressed that in Azerbaijan, we can see a vivid example of a successfully pursued oil policy that will continue in future years.

Mr Aliyev also touched on gas projects in Azerbaijan, assuring his listeners that the country will become a major exporter of gas to European markets in the coming years.

The president visited the stands of the key oil and gas companies operating in Azerbaijan. i.e. the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), BP and Statoil, and walked around the pavilions containing the other exhibitors.

The President of the USA Mr Barack Obama and the British Prime Minister Mr David Cameron both sent personal messages congratulating the exhibition on its opening. They emphasized the key role of Azerbaijan in creating new energy corridors and expressed their intention to contribute to the development of closer relations between the countries.

Another guest of honour at the oil and gas exhibition was US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She visited the stand of the American Chamber of Commerce, AmCham, and became acquainted with the exhibition in general.

Among the distinguished guests of the exhibition it was also worth noting the presence of the Lithuanian Energy Minister Arvydas Sekmokas and Daniel Stein, Senior Advisor to the Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy, US Department of State.

The exhibition was held in Baku Expo Centre for the third consecutive year. On its stand SOCAR presented the plans for its new petrochemical complex, which has been designed in glass. Specialists and regular visitors were told with great professional pride of the scale and unique features of SOCARs new project during the exhibition.

BPs stylish stand in shades of green attracted many visitors. Every visitor to their stand could take a virtual tour of the company and everyone was told about BPs activity in the region.

The interior of an aircraft was created on the stand of Silk Way Airlines and visitors were able to see the layout and view different models of passenger and cargo aircrafts.

The stands of Statoil, OMV, Total, TPAO and other leading companies operating in the Azerbaijani market, or wishing to join this market, were also very unique.

The exhibition, which traditionally demonstrates the latest oil and gas equipment, showcased innovative technologies in oil and gas production and presented new opportunities for the transportation of energy resources.

Germany, Great Britain, Russia and Turkey took part in the event as usual on their national stands.

The Azerbaijani market is very interesting and attractive, this phrase could be heard from many participants in the oil and gas exhibition. More than half of the exhibitors have accepted the invitation to participate in next years oil and gas forum, which will mark the 20th anniversary of the event.

Participation in Caspian Oil & Gas 2012 contributes significantly to the development and establishment of relationships with key and prospective customers. In addition, it demonstrates the potential of the Azerbaijani market. The exhibition has once again provided an opportunity for manufacturers to unveil their products to the local oil and gas industry.

Official support for Caspian Oil & Gas was provided by the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).

The General Sponsor of Caspian Oil & Gas 2012 was BP Azerbaijan, and the gold sponsors were the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and Andrade Gutierrez. Among the other sponsors were Caspian Geophysical, Conoco Phillips, Cross Caspian Oil and Gas Logistics, Det Norske Veritas, Ernst & Young, IGI POSEIDON SA, Inpex Corporation, McDermott Caspian Contractors, MESC, Nobel Oil LTD, OMV Aktiengesellschaft, RWE, Statoil, Salans, TAP, Total E & P Azerbaijan, Velosi, and Vietnam Oil & Gas Group (Petrovietnam). Among the partners of the exhibition and conference in 2012 were Azerfon LLC, AZAL, Greenwich Travel Club, Hilton Baku and Caucasus Point Hotel.
