Caspian Oil & Gas 2013 - TRADITIONS, MERITS AND PROSPECTS
The International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference, Caspian Oil and Gas 2013, ended at Baku Expo Centre. The largest event in the oil and gas industry in the Caspian region, organized by ITE Group plc and Iteca Caspian LLC, solemnly celebrated its twentieth anniversary.
Every anniversary is unique, with its own distinct features and memorable achievements - in other words the formula for a great story. While, for a person, twenty years forms the stage of life of maturation and the selection of targets, for an exhibition it is a whole life, rich in extraordinary events, important achievements and unique potential. This is the colourful fate that characterizes the International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference, the 20th anniversary of which has been celebrated by more than those in Azerbaijan. This superb forum brought together nearly 400 participants from different countries, attracted the attention of the largest players in the market, has received approval from all in the energy industry, and was given many cheers and congratulations from statesmen, manufacturers and businessmen. Over the course of the exhibition, thousands of visitors received a huge quantity of valuable information; were enriched by new experiences; and accomplished their professional desires to meet with specialists, experts and businessmen from all over the world.
As is tradition, the President of Azerbaijan, H. E. Ilham Aliyev, led the opening ceremony, congratulating the participants, guests and organizers on the important anniversary. "For the last 20 years, Azerbaijan has come a long way and huge progress has been made in the energy sector," said the President, adding that it was difficult to overestimate the importance of the exhibition in the development of the oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan. "It was not by chance that the contract signed in 1994 was called the ‘Contract of the Century’. And today, in the 21st century, we can say that the document was indeed the ‘Contract of the Two Centuries’, because this agreement on the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli fields has still not lost its relevance today.” And this, the ability to include in its displays the realities of progress through the two centuries, is another important achievement of Caspian Oil & Gas 2013, which has become a symbol of the historic transformations of the country.
Global industrial giants demonstrated their achievements with brilliance. The beautifully decorated stands of SOCAR, BP, Total, Statoil, RussNeft, GEA, McDermott, Real Gaz, Atenau LTD, United Engine Corporation, Caspian Marine Services Limited and many others created impact through the scale and design of their exhibits.
The exhibition not only brilliantly demonstrated the achievements of science and technology in the field of energy, but also successfully proved that Azerbaijan wants to turn oil into human capital, to redirect oil revenues to the development of the non-oil sector.
A contract for the construction of a new, sixth-generation semi-submersible offshore drilling rig was signed between Caspian Drilling Company and Caspian Shipyards Ltd at the exhibition. During the signing ceremony, Rovnag Abdullayev, Head of SOCAR, noted that the cost of the rig including taxes is just over $1 billion. This rig will be used in the Umid and Babak fields.
The annual Caspian Oil and Gas Conference Incorporating Refining and Petrochemicals, which brought together over six hundred participants to discuss the highly important issues of international cooperation and energy security in Eurasia, was held in Baku in parallel with Caspian Oil and Gas 2013. At the same time, Baku Expo Centre also hosted the only dedicated event in the energy industry of the Caspian region to demonstrate its achievements – the 3rd Caspian International Power and Alternative Energy Exhibition, Caspian Power 2013.
Presentations, seminars, business agreements, a special project called "Meet the Buyer” from BP and its partners, and a large programme of additional attractions from the organizers formed the components of the business programme of Caspian Oil and Gas 2013. All these activities created a special solemnity and festive atmosphere because of the richness of the information shared, and the added colour and variety they provided. The anniversary exhibition was marked by record numbers of participating companies, the growth of the exhibition space, a growth in the number of speakers and delegates of the conference, as well as by the numerous sponsors.
The organizers are confident that, having stepped over twenty-year boundary, Caspian Oil and Gas will remain a hallmark of the achievements of the oil sector in the region, a platform for building business relationships and a place to find new opportunities for mutual cooperation.
Thanks to all of you, our friends, colleagues and guests, and we hope to see you again soon in Baku!
